Alice has designs on Wonderland
Written on the 14 September 2016 by scotch
Alice Miles has made a colourful outfit ready for a very important date.
The 17 year old will enter an Alice in Wonderland- inspired dress in the wearable art section of the Apex Australia Teenage Fashion & Arts Youth Festival state final this weekend.
Alice, a border at Scotch College, came up with dress's design after watching a remake of the Disney classic.
"I wanted to make a fairytale dress so I started experimenting with (designs)," Alice says.
"I loved the colours in the story and the film was one of my favourites when I was younger."
Alice started dabbling in design two years ago, and is enrolled in a Year 12 visual arts subject that has a focus on fashion. She hopes to follow in the footsteps of American costume designer Colleen Atwood, who worked on Alice in Wonderland remakes.
"I have always wanted to work in film, but I never really knew what area," she says. "And with fashion, I realised I could ( work in film)."
The winners will go to the national finals in Melbourne next month.
The festival is at Scotch College, Carruth Rd Torrens Park, on Sunday 18 September from 1pm.
