A standout performance at a national football competition has taken Callum Coleman-Jones one step closer to playing in the AFL.

Callum, 15, of Hawthorndene, has been chosen for the All-Australian under-15 Schoolboys team after a stellar showing on the field at the state championships in Sydney.

“I was surprised but it’s really exciting and such a good opportunity considering I see my football career going long-term to SANFL and AFL,” Callum says.

“The best thing about it is being able to play with your mates and getting a good run around outside.”

Callum is the east’s male high school winner for August in the Messenger School Sports Awards. The ruckman fills most of his spare time with sport, training for football three times a week and playing on Saturdays and Sundays with the South Adelaide under-16s, Scotch College first under-18s and the Unley Jets under-15s.

He also manages to fit in basketball every Friday and plays volleyball in summer.

“I got an invitation about Auskick in the mail and started playing football when I was four,” Callum says. “The best memory of football so far is when I was playing for Blackwood and we beat our rival team Iron- bank by two points.”

Messenger School Sports Awards finalists will be selected in October and winners announced on November 7.
