For Tess Newton, the road to social media stardom was as simple as a picture of a green smoothie, a fridge full of vegetables and a dedication to her Year 12 studies.

The 18-year-old, who shares nutritional tips on her Instagram and YouTube accounts, has more than 32,000 followers inspired by her wholesome dishes.

Her fame started about a year ago while she was completing a Year 12 research project about creating a healthy living blog for women.

Tess says her wholesome diet kept her alert during her studies at Scotch College, where she achieved merits in English communications, physics, art and design and a research project.

She's representing Scotch at the SACE Merit Award Ceremony at Government House.

"Throughout Year 12, I always had a huge breakfast things like big bowls of oatmeal with lots of fruity toppings were such a good way to energise myself into the day," Tess, of Goodwood, says.

"For school lunches I always liked preparing a hearty salad every few days to keep in the fridge and pack for my lunches.

"I definitely feel like I am living a really balanced and healthy lifestyle I always have so much energy."

Tess, who works at Nutrition Republic on King William Rd, Goodwood, was accepted into a Bachelor of Medicine at Adelaide University, but is still unsure which medical field she wants to pursue.

She spends about two hours a week posting photos and videos on her accounts, which went viral by word-of-mouth.

Tess admits she was addicted to junk food when she was younger, but over the past 18 months found a plant-based, high-carbohydrate, low-fat, vegan diet that suited her lifestyle.

"I never thought that my Instagram would be of interest to so many people and I am still in awe that over 32,000 people follow me," she says.

"Every time I post something, it makes me really happy that I am potentially inspiring a lot of people to eat and live healthier lifestyles."
