Sarah Snook Dressed to Impress in 'The Dressmaker'

Written on the 27 May 2015

Priscilla might not be Queen of the Desert much longer judging by this new image from The Dressmaker, a tale of love, revenge and haute couture set in the Australian Outback in the 1950s.

Rocking a figure-hugging satin frock on a dusty porch in the fictional town of Dungatar, former Scotch College student Sarah Snook appears to be every inch the heir apparent.

The former Scotch College student took over the role from Isla Fisher, who was forced to pull out after production was delayed for 12 months to accommodate leading lady Kate Winslet, after she fell pregnant with her third child.

"We are delighted Sarah agreed to take the role because she is a real highlight of the film,'' said producer Sue Maslin.

"It's a really delicious irony to see these beautiful frocks, inspired by Parisienne couture, suddenly appearing in the Outback.

"That was one of the key elements that attracted (director) Jocelyn (Moorhouse) and myself to the project. The unlikely setting is precisely what sets off the sequence of events that unfold in the film."

Winslet filmed Holy Smoke (1999) with Jane Campion in remote South Australia.

The Dressmaker opens in Australia on October 22.
