Serving the community

Written on the 29 May 2013 by scotch

Year 11 student Henri Sheridan is one of 45 Scotch students who have volunteered their time to help out with this year's Red Shield Appeal. While many people help out with this important annual fundraising event, Henri's efforts are part of an ongoing contribution to the wider community as a regular volunteer for the Salvation Army.

Initially getting involved with the Salvation Army as part of the Scotch Service Learning Program at the beginning of 2012, Henri realised there was both a great need as well as many opportunities to continue to spend many hours working with the organisation. Jobs have included working in the Thrift Shop on weekends, making hygiene kits for the homeless or those living in difficult domestic situations, helping out with fundraisers and anywhere else he can lend his assistance.

“I have continued my work with the Salvation Army because I believe that there is no better way to contribute to my local community. The Salvo's are so selfless and rely on the work of many valuable volunteers. The jobs which I have been doing have been and continue to be fun and a good learning experience.”

There are still opportunities for 'Scotchies' to get involved with the Red Shield Appeal this year with the second weekend of door knocking this Saturday and Sunday, 1 - 2 June. Please contact Ms Samantha Smith at Scotch College or Major Reno Elms from the Salvation Army for more information.
