Tayla made for dark role

Written on the 26 July 2017 by scotch

Tayla Prime hopes a spooky, mysterious and kooky role in her school musical will get her a step closer to stardom.

The 17-year-old will play Morticia Addams in Scotch College's adaptation of The Addams Family on Friday.

The play tells the story of how Gomez Addams copes with his worst nightmare his daughter, Wednesday Addams, falling in love with a sweet, respectable young man.

Tayla, who has plans to move interstate to study dance and screen acting, says Morticia is a much darker character than what she would usually play.

"I think when anyone takes on a new character they subconsciously put their own style on to it," Tayla, of Panorama, says.

"For me it was a bit of glamour, even though she is supposed to be a bit dead, she is still ballsy, edgy and wears the pants a bit. I think each performance you get more experience ... which helps you start a professional career."

Tayla plans to attend Patrick Studios Australia in Melbourne before studying screen acting at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts in Sydney. She says working with her friends on the show has been a good way to cope with the stress of Year 12 study.

"It's really lovely to work with my friends and finish our year together ... which has been really exciting," she says. "Managing school and rehearsals has been difficult ... and overwhelming at times, but at the end of the day as long as you are organised and tell yourself it is OK you'll get it done."

The show is on at Scotch College, Carruth Rd, Torrens Park, from Friday 28 July until Saturday 5 August.

Tickets from $20 and can be obtained from scotch.sa.edu.au
