Xanthe hitting the right notes

From singing alongside Hugh Jackman in his Broadway To Oz Adelaide shows last year to performing in Disneyland, Xanthe Petterson has always enjoyed the spotlight.

The 16 year old will have another chance to shine, when she performs with the Australian Girls Choir in China, as part of Australia Week celebrations next month.

"I was stunned when I found out," the Scotch College student says.

"When my mum sent me the text message about it, I was just so happy."

Xanthe, who was one of 10 Australian Girls Choir members to be chosen for the tour, hopes to learn a lot from the experience.

"I'm really looking forward to learning about Chinese culture and performing to a different audience than what I am used to," she says.

Australia Week, which runs from April 11-15, will be led by Trade and Investment Minister Steven Ciobo. Xanthe, who juggles her singing with a rowing schedule at Scotch, hopes the tour will boost her leadership skills and lead to a choral captain position next year.

"I always say just go for it don't give up and try your hardest," Xanthe, of Malvern, says.
