Year 12 Results

Written on the 22 January 2014 by scotch

Some things in life are worth waiting for and Scotch students’ outstanding 2013 results for the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) and Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) are recognition of months and years of diligent application by Scotch College students and the dedication of our teachers. This year’s results reflect the academic calibre of our students, our commitment to co- education and the strength and breadth of our educational experience – all core beliefs at the heart of our educational program.
Results at a glance...

  • Charlotte Blacketer achieved our highest ATAR with 99.90
  • Two other students, Harrison Coldwell and Rashmi Sirisena, also achieved an ATAR over 99 out of a possible 99.95
  • One out of every 4 Year 12 students (25% of the class) achieved an ATAR score over 95
  • This year we welcome 45 students (23 girls and 22 boys making up 47% of the class) to the
  • Scotch90 Club–reflecting the success of coeducation. The Scotch90 Club is comprised of our students that achieve an ATAR of 90 or above, representing the top 10 per cent of students across Australia.
  • The ATAR is an international qualification, and is awarded to all students applying for Australian or International universities. Scotch’s median ATAR this year was 87; a number we can be proud of as a leading national school. Two out three Scotch students (67%) achieved an ATAR of 80 or above.
  • We are justifiably proud of our high achieving students and are pleased to note that 24% of those that had an ATAR score over 90 have been with us since Reception.

The excellent results were achieved across a broad range of subjects. Of special note:

  • Psychology: Scotch students achieved three merits and 61% of the class achieved an A grade compared to the state average of A grades of 23.6%
  • Mathematical Studies: 44% of Scotch students achieved an A grade range (compared to the state average of 25.8%) and 78% of our Specialist Mathematics students achieved A grades (compared to the state average of 30.5%).
  • Physics: 46% of our students achieved an A grade, compared to the state average of 24.9%
  • Drama: 62% of our students achieved above the state average for A grades (state average of A grades was 17%).
  • English Studies: 48% of the Year 12 cohort achieved in the A grade range compared to the State average of 29.8%.
  • Research Project: Nine of our students achieved A+ Merits, for the subject.

Such results are testament to the breadth of our subject offering where students excel in their chosen pathway.

Celebrating their results - just some of the 45 students who received and ATAR over 90.
