Zac Camerlengo Set To Take On Nation's Best

Written on the 1 July 2015

Scotch College'ss Zac Camerlengo hopes to make his presence felt at this month's under-16 Australian Junior Basketball Championships.

The 193cm, power forward will head to Tasmania as part of a 10-member SA boys' squad.

Zac, who has represented SA at under-12 and under-14 level, was one of 80 players to try out for the side.

"I worked so hard to get there so for the effort to pay off, it is a really good feeling," Zac, 15, says.

"It gets tougher as you go through the age levels because everyone matures and gets stronger and has a lot more experience."

Zac will be joined by seven players and two coaches from his club side Forestville Eagles.

"It shows as a team we are really hard working. We work to improve as a team and not just individually."

The Scotch College student is part of a national training program but Zac says he is keen to "go with the flow" with his basketball.

And while Aussies Andrew Bogut and Matthew Dellavedova featured in the NBA Finals last month, the long-retired NBA star Isiah Thomas who played between 1981 and 1994 is Zac's idol.

"He played a long time ago, but I admire his leadership and how his teammates looked up to him.

"I'd love to captain the state one day."

The eight-day event starts in Tasmania this Saturday.
