Enrichment Scholarships

The Caledonian Scholarship

The Caledonian Scholarship is awarded at year 8 and is offered to a student who demonstrates an outstanding ability in piping, pipe band drumming or highland dancing. The student must join the Scotch College Caledonian Corp for performances in competition. It is awarded based on the results of schools reports and an audition. A limited number of partial Caledonian Scholarships will be awarded annually to external students only.

Expectations specific to Caledonian Scholarships

  • Must adhere to the general expectations of all scholarship recipients
  • The scholarship holder needs to have skills in either piping, highland dancing or pipe band drumming.
  • The scholarship holder is given tuition and expected to attend all lessons and practices and set a good example to other students.
  • The scholarship holder is expected to perform with the Caledonian Corps until the completion of their final year at Scotch.
  • The scholarship holder is expected to perform and compete solely with Scotch College unless permission is given for exceptional circumstances.
  • The scholarship holder must demonstrate leadership as an ambassador for the Caldonian Pipe Band and encourage other students to be involved in all piping events, both at Scotch and at external engagements.

Performing Arts Scholarships

Performing Arts Scholarships are offered to students with demonstrated outstanding ability in dance, music, drama or voice at Year 8. The scholarships are awarded based on the results of schools reports and an audition, where students will be assessed according to specific criteria related to their nominated area. Successful scholarship recipients need to understand that there many opportunities in Scotch's Performing Arts program and that through careful consideration, each student will be given an opportunity to shine. Furthermore, any student undertaking private tuition at the College will do so at their own expense. A limited number of partial Performing Arts Scholarships will be awarded annually and be open to current students and those attending other schools.

Expectations specific to Performing Arts Scholarships

  • Must adhere to the general expectations of all scholarship recipients
  • Must complete at least one Performing Arts subject to year 12 level.
  • Demonstrate keen commitment and enter fully into Performing Arts events organised by the College.
  • Demonstrate leadership in a range of co-curricular Performing Arts ensembles and activities.
  • Prioritise school rehearsals and performances over external organisations (exceptions may be made and need to be individually negotiated by the Head of Performing Arts for commitments which involve state or national performances or ensembles).
  • Participate in a College ensemble activity every year, or as negotiated with the Head of Performing Arts.
