Suzanne Farrington Head of Girls Boarding Ph: 08 8274 4308 M: 0438 655 436
My teaching career began at Walford, in 1978. In 1981 I moved to Hong Kong where I taught for 3 years. In 1989 I was a volunteer in Calcutta at an International School, then I returned to Adelaide and taught at Westminster. In 1993 I moved back to Hong Kong.
My association with Scotch College began in 1995 when I returned from Hong Kong and my children, Warren and Sarah went into Year 7 and Year 3 at Scotch. I began by doing some relief and contract work and accepted a permanent position in 1997 teaching English and Geography in both the Senior College and Middle School.
In 2000 I became Head of Gordon House. I have thoroughly enjoyed my role as Head of Gordon and this has inspired me to accept my new position as Head of Girls Boarding for 2007. I am enthusiastic about my new role and I am really looking forward to fostering links with the boarding community and the wider Scotch community. I am also very interested in ensuring that the Boarding House is "a home away from home", where students can mature and learn about their place in our society and still maintain their identity. My relationship with the students I have taught and teach, and the role of learning both inside and outside of the classroom are the most important aspects of being a teacher.
There have been many memorable moments at Scotch, but two in particular were certainly a highlight. At Goose in January 1999 I had a close encounter with a sea lion and I am still not certain who was more surprised. The second would have to be late last year when three students from Gordon: Stephanie Evison-Williams ('06), Emily Rorrison ('06) and Natasha Stewart ('06) became the 2006 College SRC Executive. This was certainly a first at Scotch and for Gordon House. I was very proud of my students. The links that we are able to make at Scotch with our students and their families is vital and a most important aspect of being a part of the Scotch Community.
