Highland dancing is now closely associated with Scotch College. It traces its current success to the appointment of Leonie Burgess (nee Garrick) to the position of Highland Dance Instructor in 1989.

Leonie has had a strong association with Highland Dancing in Australia since she was a child. She also operates the Garrick-Stewart School of Highland Dancing. Under her direction the dance corps was expanded, improved and integrated into the engagements of the Pipe Band. It is a rare engagement which does not feature the band and dancers together. The students also compete on a regular basis in South Australia and interstate.
