The Scotch College Song
When Scotch College opened its doors to students in 1919, it was without a song to encapsulate the ethos of the College.
Scotch College remained without a song to call its own for almost 90 years, using the Australian National Anthem to mark special occasions instead.
In 2007 a challenge was set inviting all members of the ScotchCollege community to put forward ideas for a song that would encapsulate what it means to be a “Scotchie”.
After much deliberation, the committee (pictured above) selected the words, to be sung to the melody “Highland Cathedral” which was composed in 1982 by Uli Roever and Michael Korb. To find out more about the Highland Cathedral go to www.highlandcathedral.de/index.html
Members of the Scotch community submitted six lyric texts. The principal content was based on a text put forward by Antony Hubmayer (Head of Performing Arts) with additional phrases incorporated from other submissions. Three drafts were presented to the Principal in consultation with the community until the final version was approved.
