At Year 11 (SACE Stage 1) students must study at least 12 semester units, but the majority of students elect to study a wide variety of subjects. Students are encouraged to participate in the sporting program that is offered by the College.
All Year 11 students undertake one full week of work experience. Where possible, parents and students find suitable places. It is suggested that students start planning for this at the end of Year 10 as places are hard to find and are often booked out quickly. Through work experience, students are able to explore their own career preferences and develop confidence through interacting with the wider community. Students are always briefed before the work experience week. They are required to write reports on their experiences and are also visited by staff during the course of the program. Employers are also asked to complete an assessment form. Students may complete additional work experience but must first consult their Head of House and the Careers Counsellor.
The choice of subjects from Year 10 to 11 and Year 11 to 12 must meet a prescribed curriculum pattern. Details of course requirements at this SACE level are given in SACE Guidelines. To help with course selection at this level we invite students and parents to attend an information evening where current Year 11 or 12 offerings are explained. In choosing a course it is important for students and parents to seek vocational information and check related tertiary entrance prerequisites. General information about tertiary entrance is given in this link. Additional information is also available from a booklet provided by the South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre, (SATAC).
2009 Year 11 Course Information, Course, Sport, Dance, Music and Performing Arts forms can be downloaded before making your selections and returning them to the Head of Curriculum. Students who wish to study a subject that is not offered within their current year level, will need to make an appointment with the Head of Curriculum. Books are purchased through Lighthouse Books.
