While a number of Australian schools have abandoned the Three R's for general studies aimed at "occupational competency", Scotch College has added two more R's: Responsibility and Relevance.

At Scotch our teaching philosophy is aimed at providing an education:
-
For the whole person
-
To levels above the prevailing standard
-
Of long term relevance in a changing world
Scotch College is a school where teachers strive to recognise individuality, encourage personal excellence and provide learning relevant to each student's future life.
Class sizes are small and teachers continue to learn in order to continue to teach.
Students at Scotch are assessed early and at regular intervals first to identify and, later, to help realise their potential.
