The Scotch College boarding community is exactly that - a community. Both boarders and their families are welcomed into a close knit community that nurtures and supports fellow members, much like one big extended family.
Boarding offers a unique opportunity to learn about giving, taking, sharing and tolerance for communal living. The sense of belonging, the friendships which are developed and esprit d'corps are aspects of boarding that we hope will be warmly remembered by the students. Ultimately, a good boarding experience rests upon the positive attitude of the individual and the willingness to 'make an effort' across a range of situations.
We know our boarders develop independence and an increased sense of responsibility as they face the challenge of 'making it on their own'. Scotch boarders respect the rights and needs of all others who live and work with them. In doing so, resident students contribute to establishing a happy atmosphere, develop good relationships and benefit from living in a boarding situation.
Our boarders hold positions of responsibility and leadership within the College, and are renowned for their enthusiastic participation in everything Scotch has to offer - outdoor education, sporting teams, community service, performing arts, and in 2003 three of our four College Captains were boarding students.
