Each Boarding student is a member of one of eight Middle School Day Houses if they are in Years 7-9 and one of eight Senior College Day Houses if in Years 10-12.
The House structure at Scotch means that all matters concerning a Boarding student's life in the Day School are dealt with by the Day Head of House, who carefully monitors the academic, social and co-curricular progress of each student. Boarders join in the sporting and social activities arranged by their Day house including House sport, camps, barbeques, outings and debating - the list is endless. The House leadership system ensures support for younger students and encourages friendships to develop from day one.
When school ends for the day, Boarding students return to their 'homes' - Kallawar and Montrose. Here, the Boarding students can prepare an afternoon meal, organise their washing and, after dinner, begin homework under the supervision of House Assistants. Resources including printers, reference books, intranet and supervised internet access are provided to enable boarders to study effectively.
Together with a resident Head of House in each boarding facility, students are also supported by qualified house tutors, the College nurse, doctors, experienced counselling and guidance staff and the College Chaplain. Boarding students also regularly attend Chapel services at the College.
Our staff-student ratio and smaller boarding numbers means that your child will not be lost in the crowd - a high level of personal care, time and attention for every student is given to every individual student.
