International students require an adequate command of English so that they can manage the work in mainstream classes. Scotch College does not offer Intensive English classes however, English as a Second Language (ESL) is available.
If English is not the applicant’s first language then the applicant will be required to sit a test before being considered for a place at Scotch College. The results of the test will determine any need to attend an Intensive English Language Course (ELICOS) on arrival in Australia. Scotch College requires the applicant to sit the Australian Education Assessment Services (AEAS) test which is administered in cities throughout Asia, Australia, North America and the UK. For further information visit the AEAS website.
If the test recommends that the applicant study an ELICOS Course, Scotch College will provide parents with details of schools able to offer this service.
It is possible for students to board at Scotch College while attending an ELICOS Course at another school. The AEAS test must be completed prior to an offer of enrolment, unless the applicant can demonstrate a high level of proficiency in English through other, mutually negotiated methods.
Students are able to study English as a Second Language (or Language B) in their SACE studies. The College also offers French, Indonesian and Japanese as foreign languages on campus and up to 10 additional languages off campus via an association with the South Australian School of Languages.
