At Scotch College our staff are encouraged to participate in various professional development activities and programs to ensure our staff are at the forefront of educational practices. This semester our staff have been involved in professional development activities. Conferences on the future of teaching into 2020; our mathematics staff attended seminars on differing approaches and methodologies on teaching maths; and the art department have shared their expertise in various design programs with the staff body.

In the broadest educational sense the most enjoyable aspect of being a teacher is the interaction and dialogue with students and colleagues. Within music education, it is the excitement of assisting others to develop their musical voice and expression, and helping them achieve higher standards than they ever could have expected. Robyn Thomas, Head of LOTE (Languages other than English)
I spent a year in Japan as a Rotary exchange student during high school, where I became quite fluent in Japanese and developed an appreciation of other cultures. I then studied Japanese at university, with the view to teaching for a few years. I’m still at it 26 years later because I simply love my job! This is my seventh year at Scotch and I previously taught at Stuart High School (Whyalla), Brighton High School, Hallett Cove School and Mt Gambier High School. Read More

Richard Bell, Head of Agricultural Science
My real passion is working with animals and my appreciation of the natural environments came from growing in Waterfall Gully/Burnside area. I was bought up in a large family and Waterfall Gully, Cleland and Mt Lofty region was my playground. From an early age I spent hours exploring this region - collecting plants and zoological specimens and also had a variety of family pets. I was advised by family members to do an Agricultural Science Degree at Adelaide University which I absolutely enjoyed. Read More
