The Arts recognise the whole student. They foster a sense of self, community, culture and spirituality in a safe but experimental environment. They allow young men and women to learn equally.
Scotch College has a long tradition of successful endeavours in the Arts and students have always enjoyed a corner of the curriculum for those who have the inclination.
After researching Secondary Performing Arts training locally, interstate and overseas, we decided it was time to take our students to the next stage in their training through the addition of specialist training classes and new performance groups, to our daily and after hours curriculum in Dance, Drama and Music.
Set beneath the foothills of Adelaide at Torrens Park, the College houses one of South Australia's few heritage theatres built in the 1880s by the Barr Smith family to satisfy the theatrical urges of their two daughters. The theatre, restored in the 1980s, provides a performing and studio space for many of our activities. Other performing and practice spaces include an outdoor Amphitheatre, a restored Victorian drawing room, an extensive music suite, a chapel and a dance studio.
