A Win for the Girls at Pedal Prix Round One

Wednesday 28 May 2008

Congratulations to our Year 9 and 10 Girls Pedal Prix team who braved the weather to become the highest placed all female team in their division at the first round of 2008 Pedal Prix trials last weekend.

With grey storm clouds and strong gusty winds, the girls began the race full of nervous energy: for most it was their first time racing. As the day progressed the clouds cleared and the wind abated making for an ideal day for pedal prix racing.

Early in the race as their nerves settled, they set about gaining pace and speed before powering towards the finish line.

Cheered on by other Scotchies, the team of ten girls completed the 138 kilometre, 91 lap race over the course of a day.

Working together like a well oiled machine, they quickly mastered pit-stops and change-overs, and really looked at home on the track: the result of many months of practice and preparation.

With student-designed uniforms, the Scotchies stood out from the crowd with their enthusiasm and aprtitude.

Their hard work and preparation paid off as they became the highest placed all femal team of the competition, coming in ahead of many Year 10 all-boy teams from other schools, much to the Scotchies' delight.

The team finished 18th overall in their category, and were presented with medals and a trophy after the race. They will now go on to compete against 225 other teams from aroundAustrlia in Round Two on 27 July.

The third and final round will be held from 19 to 21 September.

Scotch College has been involved in Pedal Prix since its inception 21 years ago.

"Pedal Prix Coordinators Paul Glovitch and Alison McCarthy should be congratulated on their success: it's a testament to the commitment shown by Scotch teaching staff," said Scotch College Principal Mr Tim Oughton.

"Keep up the great work, we are very proud of our Pedal Prix team."

The 2008 Race One Team consisted of Lauren Webb, Mary Morgan, Adrienne Davies, Perri Snodgrass, Libby Littleyuile, Louise Firth, Madeline Smith, Lauren Camens, Kath Lea and Zali Million. With Catherine Macks and Sinead Saint joining the team from Round Two.
