International Students

Each year there are a limited number of vacancies for International Students at Scotch College (CRICOS 00615B). Enrolment of an International Student is dependent on parents accepting specific conditions of enrolment.

International Students are those students who are not Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents of Australia. The process for admission of International Students is in keeping with immigration legislation and procedures.

The stages of admission are as follows:

Application

All applicants are required to complete and lodge an Application for Admission Form and submit the following documents with their application:

  • Photocopy of passport
  • Most recent School Report
  • Results of any public examinations
  • Reference letter from current school

English Language Testing

All International students are required to sit the AEAS test

The results of the AEAS test will be sent to Scotch College with a recommendation of the number of weeks required to study Intensive English prior to the student starting.

Formal Offers of Admission

An offer of admission will generally be made on or after 1 March in the year preceding entry. Acceptance of a place of admission requires International applicants to complete and sign the following documents:

  • Confirmation of Place
  • Enrolment Agreement
  • Health and Personal Details Form
  • Student Admission Questionnaire
  • Declaration of Understanding
  • Confirmation of Guardianship

Payment of Fees

International Students are required to pay one semester's tuition and annual boarding fees in advance. Scotch College will then issue the Applicant with a Confirmation of Enrolment Form and Welfare Statement which will enable the Applicant to apply for a student visa (Schools Visa - subclass 571).

Health Cover

International Students are required to have Overseas Student Health Cover with Allianz.  Payment for health cover must be made in advance.

Guardianship

All International students on a Student Visa, regardless of age, are required to have a Guardian who acts on behalf of their parents. The Guardian may be a relative of the student living in Adelaide, over the age of 25.

Guardians must be known to be responsible and of good character, and agree that they can comply with Guardian arrangements set out by the College. They must reside in Adelaide and must also supply a Working with Children check.

Culture & Language Immersion Program

International students require an adequate command of English. Scotch College offers a Cultural and Language Immersion Program (CLIP) where students attend until they reach an appropriate level of English so they can join mainstream classes.

While EAL/D (English as an Additional Language or Dialect) support is available in the Middle School years there is a EAL/D specific class in Year 10.  EAL/D is offered in Years 11 and 12 and counts towards International Students University entrance (SACE).

Accommodation

Homestay

A Homestay experience offers an international student the chance to become fully immersed in the Australian culture, through living within a caring family environment.

Scotch College has partnered with the Australian Homestay Network to provide a cost-effective living option for students, offering families peace of mind that their children will be safe and well supported throughout their schooling in Australia. All approved Homestay families are located close to the school with numerous transportation options available.

Our Homestay families are also located close to the many attractions Adelaide has to offer. Students are provided with a private area to sleep and study, three meals per day, company and care, with the added support of a 24 hour/7 day a week phone number to support students with Homestay issues. The International Student Coordinator is also availabe to support students in homestay with academic advice and support.

On-Site Boarding House

The Rosevear Boarding Precinct strives to make residential life a positive experience for all students by providing a care system, which recognises the individual and provides a caring family-like environment. This relationship is based on trust, cooperation and open communication. We accept Boarding students from Year 7 to Year 12.

Boarders have morning and evening meals in the Boarders Dining Room located in Torrens Park House. Overlooking the botanic park-like grounds of the campus, this provides a picturesque setting for eating and socialising. During the week, midday meals are collected from the kitchen adjacent to the Boarder’s Dining Room. Food is prepared by our internationally trained chef, and is nutritious, varied and delicious.

The Heads of Boarding arrange regular outings for the boarding students throughout the year.
