2017 SACE Results

2017 SACE Results

The Scotch College community is both proud and delighted in the success of the Class of 2017. The results achieved by our students reflect a rigorous and all-encompassing learning journey.

There are many individuals to be acknowledged and congratulated on their success. In particular, we would like to acknowledge the efforts of Simoné Richards – who achieved an ATAR of 99.55. A fantastic effort. As a student, she has enjoyed a wide range of co-curricular activities including being a member of the flute ensemble, concert choir, swimming squad, soccer, softball and musical crew. She has also given great service to the College community and this was recognised by the awarding of the Charles Fisher Chapel Prize on Speech Night.

Simoné is joined by Benjamin Phipps, Eliza Ross-Smith, Ethan Spencer and Benjamin Francis all who achieved over 99 and are ranked in the top 1% nationally. Fifty-five students today join the Scotch90 club, this is 47% of the group - a remarkable achievement. 27% of the cohort achieved an ATAR over 95 with an almost even split of female and male. The median ATAR for the group was 89.15.

College Principal, Dr Newton is elated “These results remind us of what brilliant young people we get to work alongside each day at Scotch. We take enormous pride in their success but we also know that at this juncture in their life our graduates will not be content to rest on their glories. This group has been defined by their collective spirit of support for each other and their desire to give their best. They know that today signifies their first step in making the world a place where we can all contribute to the greater good.”

Today we not only celebrate the efforts of the best but also acknowledge those who have made the most of an opportunity to be their best. Our ever-present supportive families, our amazing teaching and professional staff may take great satisfaction in the achievements of our students.

These results are the strongest achieved at Scotch since the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) was introduced in 2010. This year’s graduating class eagerly await their preference choices knowing that their results will enable them entry into programs post school for which they have nominated.

This group has been characterised by a strong intrinsic motivation to succeed. Through hard work, unique learning experiences and being able to exercise their intellectual muscle these students have learnt that success can be theirs.

Our staff are interested in teaching the whole person and their delivery of the SACE program is not just about what needs to be done for the assessment. It is the thorough knowledge about each student and personal approach that creates our culture of success.

The full summary of results is available here.

All schools have narratives to share and build upon. Our academic narrative again takes a strong step forward with these results. Our graduates leave confident and with a self- assuredness ready to be people of impact. They have embraced the many opportunities available to them and extended themselves. They value authentic relationships and have shown they are people who will not sit back and be content with mediocrity.

Congratulations Class of 2017. We look forward to following your next steps with keen interest and encouragement. What a magnificent way to end our year!
