Academic Matters: Week 3

Academic Matters: Week 3

NAPLAN was the major topic of conversation this week – not because of the actual tests but all around the bandwidth that wasn’t there for everything to run smoothly. I was really proud of our year 9 students, who on Tuesday afternoon didn’t react in a negative fashion. Yes, they were frustrated but they understood and adapted to the situation, despite what was being said in the media.

The process will be finished today with catch up sessions for students who missed tests over the last two days.

On Wednesday we learned that Seqta will be modernising their interface in term 3, making it easier for parents and students to know when assessment due dates will occur.

Friday May 24, council and committee members will be involved in a Middle School Learning Walk from Period 1 to 4. The idea behind this is to have conversations with the students about their learning. Dr Susie Robinson (Chair of the Education Committee) will be leading this initiative (the Junior School had a similar day back in 2017) and from here will be able to gather data to inform us about strategies for improvement.

Many students have contacted me about making changes for semester 2, so it’s not too late if you haven’t seen me. Some students might like to wait until after their exams and that is OK as well.
