Academic Matters: Week 4

Academic Matters: Week 4

Academic Matters: Week 4

Our students are most fortunate to have been in classes since the beginning of term with the rest of the nation are just getting back to ‘normal’ with staggered starts for all students.

It was a great sight last night to be driving out last night with our ovals full of students practising football and soccer (all following the physical distancing regulations).

The SACE Board continues to provide updates and the latest can be found here.

Trialling Zoom

We are hosting our first webinar using zoom on Thursday May 28 at 6.45pm. Belinda Sorensen (Careers Counsellor) will be leading the webinar and myself and Mark Kelly (Careers Counsellor) will be available to answer questions during the chat. The webinar will cover topics like SACE information, ATAR calculations, bonus points, SATAC information and deadlines and options for university courses. This webinar is open to both parents and students and we will be asking for registrations.

Year 11s have exams starting on Monday June 22 in the Chapel and Year 10 start semester tests on Monday June 22 in their classes. The timetables for both year levels are in SEQTA Engage. The majority of the exams will be done using an online environment either via FORMS or STILE.

Student Teachers

As an organisation we are constantly growing and fostering development. The mentoring of student teachers is important, for the continual growth in the profession. The School of Education at Adelaide University is working alongside the Apple Education team to deliver a best-practice eLearning Program throughout the Bachelor of Teaching double degree and they have asked us to partner with them. Five pre-service teachers who are in their first year of teaching will work with our staff for ten days, with a view to becoming proficient in the use of contemporary technologies for learning and this will occur form the beginning of term 3.

Preparing for Semester 2

I have sent reminders to students in Year 9, 10 and 11 outlining their subject choices for semester 2. If a student wishes to change choices for semester 2 then they can let me know, but I need to remind them that I can’t guarantee that I can accommodate all students changes as our timetable grid was based on choices made by students in 2019.
