Academic Matters: Week 7

Academic Matters: Week 7

As we get closer to the end of the term, students are getting ready for their exams and end of semester assessments. So how can everyone help here? Teachers are available for extra help and support; students should create a study timetable and parents need to be there to offer their guidance and support on the home front.

The company, Elevate education offer advice for parents, if interested then please click here. Elevate will be here next week talking to the parents of our Year 6 and 7 parents next Wednesday night.

Planning for 2019 will start to take place in week 9 this term. Our next steps conference for students in Year 10 and 11 is on 27 and 28 June. There will be guest presentations from all three Universities, the TAFE sector and our faculty leaders. We have been fortunate to  secure the services from over 20 Old Collegians to talk about their journeys since leaving Scotch. A wide variety of areas will be covered including agriculture, event planning, medicine, engineering, entrepreneurs, systems analyst, architecture and fashion. The Australian Institute of Machine Learning will also provide information on the future of work as well as representatives from the Advanced Technology Project (Space industries), Naval Shipbuilding College, SAAB Industries and Department of Defence. Kym Siddons a Sports Physiotherapist will offer wellbeing sessions to students around exercise, education and ergonomics.

Year 10 Future Planning evening takes place on Thursday 27 June from 4.00pm in Cottle, where information about the SACE and the pathways available over the next two years.

If students are not here for the last few days of term, then we can provide information for them about subject choices for 2020 when they return next term.

Next term Wednesday 31 July, an information evening will be held for Year 9 parents as they start their SACE journey. Throughout the first few weeks of term I will speak to all of the students from Year 7 – 9, as online 2020 subject choices will be due Thursday 15 August.

If you have any questions, then please make sure that you contact me.
