Academic Matters: Week 7

Academic Matters: Week 7

We are now heading to the last few weeks for our Year 12 students in getting their final pieces of work together. It’s important that the students ask their teachers for help, get organised and ready for the final exams.

Monday night (September 13) there will be an opportunity for you to talk to teachers of year 12 examinable subjects. Here teachers will outline the finals few weeks to help support students in preparation for the exams. The night starts at 4pm and will be conducted face to face. We ask parents to follow the current covid guidelines: check in with QR codes, wear masks and to socially distance. The interviews will be in Cottle and Gratton classrooms.

The final Study Skills session through Elevate Education called ‘The Finishing Line’ will be offered on Friday September 10 during house time.  This session will concentrate on overcoming weaknesses in the lead up to exams, the role of exam study groups, stress management techniques and study routines for swotvac and the holidays.

Flinders University are now offering students in Year 12 an opportunity to submit their Year 11 grades as part of an early conditional offer to start their university studies in their preferred degree. Students will need to successfully complete the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) (or equivalent) to confirm their admission.

Students will need to apply online and can speak to student advisors about courses, applications close Thursday September 30.

Adelaide University have now closed their application process and the students who applied will receive conditional offers in late September.

Continuing Learning message from the SACE Board

The SACE Board is ready to work with schools should there be any COVID disruption to learning and assessment during the final months of this year.

It is understandable that some students may be feeling uncertain about what’s ahead, please be reassured that the SACE Board is monitoring the situation and are currently working to the existing plan of exam dates, due dates for submission of results and student materials and results release day.

Some business and care providers are already taking action to minimise risks in their facilities, which in turn may mean that it is difficult for students to undertake work placements. Students should continue with their VET learning as much as possible, and if it becomes difficult for a student to complete their VET course or their work placement – then the SACE Board will put in place similar provisions for an additional opportunity to submit VET results in line with the ones available during 2020.

We are all hoping that the impact of COVID-19 will be minimal, but certainly the SACE Board is continuing their commitment and promise to each SACE student that their learning will be valued, and that they won’t be disadvantaged due to the impact of COVID-19.
