Academic Matters: Week 8

Academic Matters: Week 8

The year is finally coming to end and our students are working hard right up until the end.

Students in year 7, 8 and 9 are involved in Project based learning activities and are involved with various projects.

  • Year 7 students are all doing a STEM challenge, involving a Rube Goldberg machine that incorporates elements of science and maths, such as levers, pullies and angles.
  • Year 8 languages are considering the cultural perspectives involved in marketing worldwide brands. The Chinese and French students have been grouped together in order to redesign the packaging for one product from a global company such as Nike or McDonalds.
  • Year 7 French are researching French cheese and then creating a miniature clay model of their chosen cheese!
  • Year 8 English are looking at Future Camp programs

Our Year 10 Integrated Learning culminates on Monday with the students coming in to share their Driving Question (one minute) and product and then one minute of question time from either their mentor and / or their peers, this is Assessment Task 2 of the Personal Venture Section of the course. A reminder to bring their laptops if they are, for example, doing a multimedia presentation. The staff will moderate the students work on Wednesday morning. Students (if they have completed the task) will have the grade reported on their end of semester report and next year they will be accredited with 10 SACE credits.

Year 10 students are expected in the lecture theatre at 8.30am for some information about the Research Project and then they will do their presentations from Period 2. Students must be wearing their summer uniform. There will be no formal exam return for Year 10 and 11 students, feedback is being provided in SEQTA.

Any student who wants to change their course for 2021 should either send me an email or come and see me in the Senior Centre. Year 10 students can see me on Monday if they need to make a change. I cannot always guarantee that the changes will be able to be made as the subject grids are made on the choices that students have made in August.

Semester 2 reports will be available in seqta from Thursday December 10. Research project results and other Stage 2 results will be released from the SACE Board on Tuesday 15 December. Students should be familiar with the online portal, they can logon here with their SACE registration number and PIN to view their results.

This year has thrown us many challenges and in the face of adversity we have all managed to be flexible and adaptable, and everyone should be proud of what they have achieved.
