Actions Speak Louder

Actions Speak Louder

This has been an action packed first week for Torrens Park Campus staff, students and families. On Monday our whole staff celebrated the start of term coming together to work on our College values: mutual respect, personal excellence, life-long learning, wellbeing, service, and community.

These values have been crafted over many years and sit in the background informing the actions we take. It is the responsibility of all members of our campus community to check and develop their behaviours against these empowering words which shape our unique culture.

Having worked in several leading private schools I can genuinely claim that the culture of Scotch is unique. We are a campus that do not hide behind words, but uses them to challenge ourselves and create a dialogue. We are the first to say that we don’t always get it right, but we are willing to learn and grow together as a community. Having the conversation, instead of the heated argument, enables us to grow together. As always, I encourage you to reach out and engage with us if things are not sitting easy with you or you wish to clarify.

In today’s eNews you will find an impressive list of students who have achieved great things through effort and hard work, including Summer Colours and Principal’s Awards. Sometimes we cannot capture those key qualities for success in formal awards. To all our unsung champions thank you for your contribution that makes you and our community a better place. If you are aware of an achievement or an act of service, then please let us know. We need to model and celebrate these moments in order to build our positive culture.

In her weekly Academic Matters, Ms Teresa Hanel provides important information about NAPLAN and University Entrance. Whilst specific year groups receive this information, I would encourage other year levels to understand these important processes in the academic journey of our students.

The Jazz Cabaret evening on Tuesday evening was superb. Congratulations to all who performed. There were many stunning performances and the format created by Dr Hubmayer and his amazing team was appreciated by all. We enjoyed a groovy performance of “My Favourite Things” from the Middle School Soulettes. We wish our students success in the Adelaide Schools Jazz Festival in coming weeks.

Today in assembly, Mr Albano and Sarah Bosboom provided our ANZAC Day reflection. I would encourage each of us to speak with our families about this important day and what it means with the core values of courage, sacrifice and mateship. Those of you following Scotch on Facebook or Instagram would have already seen images from Tuesday's flag laying service at Centennial Park.

It is not just the obvious definition of these values that we reflect on, but it is how we use them in our everyday life to challenge the status quo, to serve and to give of our best.

Lest we forget
