AI for Good: Hackathon

AI for Good: Hackathon

On Thursday, our Year 7 cohort engaged in the Imagine Cup Junior 'Hackathon'! We welcomed Gabbi Jenkins from Education Changemakers as the host for this event.

In teams, students researched a real-world problem from a range of categories (Earth, Cultural Heritage, Accessibility, Humanitarian Action and Health) and created a specific question to endeavour to solve. They then learned about Artificial Intelligence (AI), as well as the ethical considerations involved, and collaboratively developed an AI based solution to their real-world problem. As a culminating activity, student teams presented a one minute 'pitch' to their peers.

It was fantastic to see the problem solving, team working and critical thinking on display throughout the day. The ideas that were developed demonstrated an eager understanding of the AI concepts involved and displayed the diverse passions that our Scotch students share. We saw teams set out to tackle uneven distribution of water along the Murray, how to preserve vulnerable cultural artefacts that cannot be moved, and yellow fever carrying mosquitoes.

We are excited to refine the final projects and submit them to the newly global challenge!
