Ana's Couture is Cutting Edge

At just 15, Ana Samaras is already creating a stir with her couture gowns.

The Scotch College student recently won the formal wear category at the Apex Australia Teenage Fashion Awards national finals in Perth. And she has already sketched a design for next year’s competition. Ana won a glass trophy in the nationals and a Janome overlocker sewing machine for being a state finalist.

She drew this year’s winning design three years ago and plans to keep it as a memento.

“As this is the first gown I have ever made, I would like to minimise my use of it as I want to keep it as a reminder that anything is possible if you put your mind to it,’’ she says. “I have been raised with fashion, beauty and interior design all my life.

“My mum has been my role model and inspiration for my passion for couture gowns.’’

The competition has four main categories — casual wear, formal wear, society and environment and wearable art.
