Author in Residence: Christina Booth

As part of our association with the May Gibbs Children’s Literature Trust, we look forward to hosting Australian children’s author and illustrator, Christina Booth, next week. Each class will spend a lesson working with Christina, who will travel from Tasmania to spend time with us. Trained as a teacher, Christina is also a landscape artist. She started her publishing career as an illustrator to great writers, such as Colin Thiele, Max Fatchen and Christobel Mattingley. In 2007, Christina’s first picture book, ‘Purinina, A Devil’s Tale’ was published. She now has over twenty books published, including her award-winning ‘Kip’, ‘Welcome Home’ and ‘Too Many Sheep’. Christina will share her knowledge and experiences with our students from Tuesday 16th – Friday 19th May. Also coming up in May is National Simultaneous Storytime. This is an annual campaign that aims to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books. Now in its 17th successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy. At 11am AEST on Wednesday 24th May, children around Australia, including Scotch College Junior School, will read ‘The Cow Tripped Over The Moon’ by Tony Wilson and Laura Wood.
