End of Term 1 Update

End of Term 1 Update

The world looked very different when I flew back from the UK after Christmas in early January 2020.  Since then we have been faced by challenges that have been unprecedented in their nature and their number.

My first task therefore is to thank all of you, my colleagues and my Council for your superb work in helping us navigate the most difficult three months of my career.

We face more difficult times ahead.  Please be assured the College is doing everything in its power to excel in its educational offering for your children.  We must return your faith in us by delivering a high quality education for the young people in our charge.  It is at times like this that we acknowledge that we are not just a profession but a vocation.  The call to educate students and serve their needs through this is compelling and irresistible and I am privileged to work with colleagues who believe the same thing.

We are working on the assumption that the current school opening status may last through Term 2.  Please therefore note the amendment to the dates for Term 2 below, in particular that we have added two extra Pupil Free Days on Friday 15 May and Friday 5 June.

The adjustment by the College remains very strong. The reason for that success has been timely moments for professional reflection. These two days will provide a break from the onslaught of screen time, and the intensity that online learning has brought for our students too. Therefore, we have opted to give these stage breaks so that we can regroup and make the best use of our resources to educate our students.

As you will have seen from Raymond Spencer’s letter, we are cognisant of the struggles that some of you are having as the economy takes a lurch downwards due to the impact of the virus.  We want to keep everything together as we head into the rest of the year and trust that you can walk this journey with us.  As Raymond said, contact us if you need help. All such enquiries are treated with the utmost sensitivity, confidentiality and understanding.

We hope that the Easter Break will produce something of a respite from the huge upheavals of the last three months. Thank you once more for the vast number of positive messages that we have received.  Thank you too for the letters of feedback which we always honour and take very seriously.

For now, I trust you stay well and weather the storm that currently rages around us.  We look forward to reconnecting with you all as term begins and, hopefully, normality slowly returns to Adelaide and to Scotch.  =

Dr John Newton
Principal

Cashless Canteen Reminder

After using Term 1 to transition away from mixed payment methods (cash, yellow vouchers, card, Much Monitor), please remember that from the beginning of Term 2, the Scotch Canteen will no longer accept cash payments.

Mitcham Campus families can use Munch Monitor (for lunch orders only) while Torrens Park Campus students may use Munch Monitor Snack Money (using their linked student card), EFT and contactless (e.g. saving/credit cards or Apple Pay) facilities for purchases.

Families will be aware that many retailers, markets and food outlets have also recently transitioned to cashless payments as a means of minimising personal contact and potentially reducing the extent of possible COVID-19 transmission.

More information about our new cashless canteen, payment methods and guides for setting up snack money in Munch Monitor can be found online.
