End of Term 2 Update

End of Term 2 Update

It has been truly refreshing to have all your children back on our campuses over the last term and I congratulate you on the wonderful way in which you have supported them and us in re-establishing school life.

While not out of the woods in terms of restrictions, school life has very much returned to normal. Next term a full set of co-curricular activities are planned, and we look forward to all the concerts, plays, dance shows, and sports events of the rest of the year.

While we are returning to a semblance of normality there will still be restrictions and rules and regulations to observe when students return in late July. I have asked Ieva Hampson as Head of the Junior School and Dale Bennett as Head of Torrens Park Campus to give you more detail on that matter towards the end of the mid-year break.

Please also be aware that as a standard practice, we have uploaded our School Performance Data for 2019 to the Policies & Reports page. This is an official report we are required to make to you and I trust you enjoy reading of the incredible range of activities and achievements that make up life at Scotch.

For parents in the ELC, please note the ECEC relief package finishes on 12 July. At that point the ELC will return to normal operation and the life will continue to be invigorating and stimulating.

I trust the break is restful for you and your children. The Senior School students head towards exams in the latter half of the year while our Middle School and Junior School students continue to invest in all aspects of school life so they develop their own identity and direction of travel for their future.

It continues to be a privilege to look after your children. They are endlessly welcoming and courteous in conversation with me and I treasure every encounter. You have done a fine job of bringing them up and I trust we add to that a fine educational experience so that they become the excellent adults they promise to be.

I wish you all a fine mid-year break.

John H Newton
Principal

Annual Appeal 2020

If there is one thing that a pandemic can’t put on hold, is a true sense of generosity and community at Scotch!

A huge thank you to our nearly-600 donors who have participated in our ‘It Takes Two’ Appeal this year. In times like this, we’re reminded of how interconnected we all are. I am enormously proud of our community’s sense of togetherness and our determination to look out each for each other. At time of writing, we have raised over $125,000!

If you are willing, and have the capacity to do so, then please join me in supporting our Annual Appeal, which will remain open until the end of the year. Donations towards our 2020 Bursary Fund are not tax-deductible as it does not meet ATO requirements. However, it will have an immediate impact and help a Scotch family remain part of our community.

Should you wish to make a tax-deductible donation to the Building Fund or to the Scholarship Fund and continue the important growth of the College, this option is available, very much welcome and deeply appreciated.

Mitcham Campus Update

Our Prep students have completed their Junior School Orientation this week and we are looking forward to welcoming them formally next term, with a special Ceremony.

The Junior Campus has been preparing for our Semester 2 Leadership program and we are looking forward to holding an induction ceremony in the first week back. Given this events draws a large number of visitors, under normal circumstances, we will look to have a photographic record for families who have children inducted as SRC or Green Team representatives.

At the end of the week, our House Leaders will be sending home iron-on House patches with our new House mascots. House spirits are high and, despite a wash out this week for House Soccer, we will look to reschedule this much loved event.

A reminder to families that as a SunSmart registered school, students are required to wear their school hats from the beginning of Term 3.

Ms I Hampson
Head of Mitcham Campus

Drop off and pick up areas

Parents are reminded to please be patient and comply with the designated drop off and pick up areas in the Carruth Road car park. Please do not go beyond the bollards towards the Rose Garden and Chapel.

Extended Absences

Parents are reminded that if they intend to take their child out of school for an extended period of time (more than 5 school days), at least 6 weeks’ written notice must be given to the relevant Head of School. Students can miss out on vital school work and if given enough prior notice, teachers can set work for students to do while they are on leave.
