The Ides of March

The Ides of March

Over 5 nights in March, Year 12 English students and staff visited the Bakehouse Theatre for a performance of ‘The Ides of March’… ironically during the Ides of March! 

The show follows a time-travelling William Shakespeare who arrives in ancient Rome to observe the assassination of Julius Caesar, as research for his famous play, only to find himself on the run after Roman detectives anoint the suspicious foreigner as public enemy number one. The play is an original work by Kieran Bullock, and debuted at the 2018 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

The students wrote a review suitable for publication, which contributed to their assessed grade for Responses to Texts. It was wonderful to be able to see a live performance and we followed all Covid 19 protocols, signing in and wearing masks. The students were excellent ambassadors and audience members every night. They all selected a convenient evening and organised to be at the theatre to meet a staff member. I wish to thank Dale Bennett, Sarah Beven, Jess Nicolls and Caitlin Mooney for attending on various nights to allow the students to attend in small groups, as that was the Covid-19 requirement at the Theatre.
