International Women's Day Breakfast

International Women's Day Breakfast

Friday 6 March marked the 27th Adelaide International Women’s Day Breakfast, to which Scotch were thrilled to take along a table of student leaders and staff. The host of this year’s breakfast was Scotch Old Collegian Penny Wong. Penny shared wise words of wisdom for all women, no matter what age or race and encouraged everyone, male and female to acknowledge the importance of women in Australia.

The breakfast began by the Welcome to Country by Rosemary Wanganeen before we were introduced to guest speaker, Elizabeth Broderick, AO. Elizabeth has brought together captains of industry, sport, governments and Defence Force chiefs to address gender inequality in Australia and beyond. As Australia’s longest serving Sex Discrimination Commissioner (2007-2015), Elizabeth worked tirelessly to break down structural and social barriers faced by women and men, and to promote gender equality. Her review into the treatment of women in the Australian Defence Force led to sweeping cultural reforms.

At the breakfast, Scotch students and staff were empowered by all speakers and have many important thoughts and messages to take away, regarding the importance and strength of all women in our country.
