Scotch College 15-year-old Lucy Knight has achieved a sporting treble, after representing SA in the under-17 indoor volleyball squad.

This is the third sport in which Lucy has achieved state honours, having previously played under-16 basketball and under-17 beach volleyball.

“It’s a good opportunity to improve my skills, play with other really good players and train with really good coaches,” Lucy says.

She acknowledges the guiance offered by her school: “The sporting programs are really good here, as good as the academic program, and I get good support in both.”

Olympic basketballer Rachael Sporn, and beach volleyball pair Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar. "It would be a dream to end up playing for Australia – I don’t know for what sport yet,” she says.

Her mother, Lorraine Knight, is a PE teacher at Scotch – and a constant source of encouragement.

“There are obviously tough times when you don't believe in yourself as much as you should – she’ll be there to pick me back up and help me to keep going,” Lucy says.

Lucy and her under-17 indoor volleyball teammates last week competed in the national championships, at the Gold Coast.
