Mitcham Campus Update: Camps

Mitcham Campus Update: Camps

This week I had the opportunity to visit three of the Outdoor Education Camps and excursions and spoke with staff at each of the camps I was unable to attend.

It has been a richly rewarding week with opportunities for our children to build on the Signature Learning Experiences and focuses for their Year Level.

The Year 2s had lots of opportunity to explore and connect during their two-day camp at Woodhouse. There was great excitement as these children headed off for their first overnight adventure. The Year 3s had further experiences where they could build their understanding of diversity at Narnu Farm, and celebrate individual differences.

The Year 4s had a highly successful experience. Facing Challenges and drawing on courage is the focus of this year. Whether it be the challenge of two nights away from home, trying new foods or doing the right thing and leaving a treasured find on the beach, these students did so well. We have been working on ways to show respect and great progress has been made.

The Year 5s, commenced their Live Well journey (the wellbeing programme that will be delivered over the coming five years) with a Sunrise Ceremony. I am not sure whether the photos can do justice to the special occasion that was the receiving of letters from home and individual reflection time in such a beautiful setting.

Collaboration and Leadership was required of the Year 6s during their aquatics camp. It was impressive seeing small teams of students working collaboratively throughout the three days, supporting each other with physical challenges, homesickness, duties around campsite and the delivery of their Scotch Factor performances!

A massive thank you must be extended to the teachers who all made alternative arrangements with their own families so that yours could be afforded this fabulous opportunity.

We are looking forward to hearing all about our Reception and Year 1 excursions on Thursday too!
