The Saies Shield: Torrens Park Campus House

As Heads of House and Student Wellbeing Leaders, the Saies Shield is one way that we pursue our purpose of ensuring students are known, nurtured, challenged and valued. The Saies Shield is a multi-faceted competition between the Houses that runs across the calendar year and is a competition that reflects the diversity of what we value in an education at Scotch.

The traditional events such as Athletics Day, Swimming Carnival and Cross Country are augmented by artistic competitions such as Big Sing and Big Draw, academic competitions such as House Chess, and Oratory Competitions (new this year) in Debating and Public Speaking. More sporting competitions are run at lunch times including the traditional like Netball and Volleyball and the more abstract like European Handball and Spike Ball. These competitions are predominantly organised and run by students, with House Captains, Co-curricular Captains and Ambassadors taking a key role in designing, running and implementing events.

The Saies Shield also recognises student’s achievements in gaining Letters, Colours, Principals Awards and award winners in a diverse range of external academic competitions. All-in-all, this ensures we get to know the strengths of our students, nurture their development, challenge them to participate out of their comfort zone and value the contributions they have to make to the rich mosaic of Scotch life. May the best House win.
