Science Week 2020: Ocean Blue and Climate Change

During Science Week in Week 5, Billy Jaffray and Jennifer McGrath (our STEM Ambassadors) ran some interesting and fun activities for Middle School Students in the Science labs at lunchtime.

The students engaged in activities related to the 2020 National Science Week theme of Ocean Blue and Climate change:

  • Coloured Rain – this activity showed students how rain forms using fluorescent dyes and highlighted the importance of the water cycle on this planet
  • Ocean Acidification – this activity showed students how carbon dioxide emissions are adding to the acidity of the ocean, which creates issues for corals and shellfish which struggle when there is more acidity in seawater
  • Sea Creature under a Microscope - this activity showed students the huge diversity of animals and plants that live in the ocean.
