Scotch Defeats Pembroke in Collegiate Cup

After 8 days of intense competition, Scotch has claimed the inaugural Collegiate Cup by defeating Pembroke 8-6.

The cup started On Friday 16 March with a dramatic 4 run victory for our Girls A Cricket team, followed by our Girls First VIII Rowing Squad beating Pembroke and claiming second place overall at Head of the River.

During the week, both the Premier A Girls Tennis and the Girls Softball A claimed strong victories, before the Senior A Girls Basketball team recorded a convincing 22-point win.

Our Middle A Boys Volleyball team then added to the points tally with a great win against a strong Pembroke opponent. Despite the victories, Pembroke were never far off the pace all week, picking up wins in Athletics, Middle Girls A Basketball, Girls and Boys Senior Volleyball, leaving the overall result in doubt going into the final day of competition on Saturday.

After Pembroke claimed victory early on Saturday morning in the Mixed A Badminton, the scores were tied 6-6 overall. Our Middle A Boys Tennis squad and our First XI Boys Cricket team were poised in securing the overall in for Scotch! Our Middle A Boys Tennis squad won 4-2, and our First XI claimed a tense victory, beating Pembroke in their two day match to ensure Scotch claimed the inaugural collegiate cup.

All games were played in great spirit by both schools. We hope now to develop this even more in future seasons as we seek to strengthen the healthy sporting tradition and rivalry between our two Colleges. Well done to all our Scotch players in what was a great event from start to finish.

Attention now turns to the final sporting events of the Summer season and the next Collegiate Cup against Pulteney Grammer School. That competition commences on 3 April after the Easter break - we wish all our athletes the very best of luck in this campaign. You can find more details about the contest, with fixtures online soon, here.
