Scotch Football: A Season to Remember

Congratulations to our Boys first XVIII Football team who have convincingly won The SAAS Division 2 Football league this season. After recently beating Mercedes College at the weekend, they have finished the season undefeated. So well done to all the boys and our Head coach Ben Nelson for a fantastic achievement.

Scotch College First XVIII Football have had a successful 2017. The squad endured a hard pre-season and Ben Nelson worked with us to set the standard of excellence that we expect to see of ourselves both on and off the field. The squad was united through the great relationships with each other forged over the years of representing the College with a sense of satisfaction. At the beginning of the season, we established our trade mark, P.R.I.D.E. Professional, Ruthless, Intensity, Discipline and Execution. The leadership team consisted of six players; Jed Radbone (Co-Captain), Charlie Morgan (Co-Captain), Sam Hargreaves (Vice-Captain), Quinn Spencer, Tom Fuss and Callum Coleman-Jones.

The highlight of the season was when the team retained the Rosevear cup, in honour of Jim Rosevear, former First XVIII coach and Principal of Middle School at Scotch. The season was first-rate and the side went undefeated to any Division 2 side, but unfortunately lost three games to, Rostrevor, Saint Peters and Prince Alfred College, who are all in Division 1.

We are the 2017 Premiers of Division 2 and had some convincing wins on our way to claiming the title. A huge amount of respect has been earnt from people within the College and from outside, something the Coach Ben Nelson emphasised as an important outcome throughout the season.

Many friendships have been built from the Scotch football program that will last a life time, and this has been a season to remember for the Class of 2017. We have finished strong and we wish the next generations every success as they carry the mantle of a fantastic school with a big heart which is shown through our efforts in season 2017.

Thanks boys.
