Sports Recap: Term 3 Week 6

Sports Recap: Term 3 Week 6

The IGSSA and SAAS winter sport seasons came to an end over the last week, which meant several Scotch teams were competing in Grand Finals matchups!

After an excellent season that included only 2 losses, the Middle A Girls qualified for the Soccer Grand Final against an undefeated Wilderness side. The girls fell to Wilderness during the season, but played brilliantly, digging deep to upset Wilderness 2-1 and take out the IGSSA Middle A Girls Soccer Championship - weel done girls!

In Hockey, The Senior A Girls, who have not lost a game for 2 seasons, retained the IGSSA Division 1 Hockey Shield by battling to a 3-3 tie with Seymour (IGGSA rules state that any tied game in the final results in the schools sharing the shield). An exciting albeit somewhat frustrating finale for our Girls. Nevertheless, a fantastic achievement again by this outstanding team to finish undefeated and top of the league again for the second year in a row and to retain the IGGSA shield is something we are all very proud of. Well done girls!

In Netball, 3 of our teams qualified for Grand Finals. Our Year 9 girls defeated Pembroke by 6 goals - a massive result considering 2 of the team's defenders suffered injuries in the past fortnight that stopped them playing! Our Senior Open Bs defeated Westminster by 54-32 to win the pennant. This is the first and only Senior Netball pennant Scotch has won in 31 years of the IGSSA netball competition. Unfortunately our year 7s went down by 2 goals in their grand final to Pembroke however, they are still alive in the knockout competition and will compete in the state final (down to the last 4) on 27 September.

These achievements, plus other outstanding results, including our First XVIII Boys gaining promotion to the premiership division, our Open A Boys Basketball team winning the SAAS Open A Basketball championships and the many individual state representatives we have had this year, makes this winter season of sport another highly successful one for Scotch.

Well done to all our students in all our sports. You continue to show outstanding commitment and a brilliantly positive, healthy competitive spirit. Congratulations all.
