STEM Robotics

Congratulations to our Year 7 and 8 STEM team, who recently placed 3rd at the State Championships of the SA Robocup competition. We had 2 teams compete in this competition, and our students were all part of our STEM enrichment workshops which are run every Wednesday afterschool in the Science labs.

In groups of 3 and 4 students worked together to design, build and program their Sumo robot using a LEGO EV3 Mindstorm kits and laptops.

Our prize-winning team of Lachlan Burgan, Freddie Windle and Sebastian Morner designed a clever robot that was heavy and had a large “tyre” outer surround. Their robot very capably battled against the other school teams in this State level competition. They were narrowly defeated for 1st place in their first-place battle and then they won their next battle to seal 3rd place in the final placings. This was a great effort as the boys had to re-program and code their robot and adjust their design as the competition continued to endeavour to have their robot to keep winning their battles against other teams.
