STEM Sista with STEM FastTrack

Chloe Garrels, Alyssa Casey and Sandra Wu attended the STEM Sista Program this week run by Founder and CEO of STEM FastTrack Teresa Janowski.

STEM Sistas is a mentoring program designed to empower young women as they navigate high school, supporting them with subject choices, choosing university courses and making career choices. Not only do they meet and network with local women and men in who work in STEM to hear their success stories, they learn valuable skills to support their study.

On their second day they were thrilled to meet Richard Price, CEO of Defence SA, Reg Carruthers, Director Space at SA Space Industry Centre, Sumen Rai, Director at Defence Innovation Partnership (David A’s wife!). All talked about their experience in STEM industries and the different paths their careers have taken. Great suggestions and tips were given to the girls to help them through their future STEM Careers.

The second day ended with a Paper Plane challenge with Chloe and Sandra placing a valiant Second place. Through this challenge they learnt about trial and error, design processes, and reflecting about their designs.

The final day will be at Lot Fourteen where they will tour the precinct and meet some of the Start-ups that are building their businesses in STEM fields.
