Success at the Fish Tank

Success at the Fish Tank

Entrepreneurship is an integral part of the product offering at Scotch College. Through subjects such as 9@Scotch, Business Innovation, Business and Enterprise and the eSchools Shark Tank, as well as the Entrepreneurship CoCurricular Program, students have ample opportunities to learn new skills and experience new challenges.

One challenge that a group of Year Seven students took on was the Unley Council Fish Tank. This competition required them to develop a product or service, attend a series of workshops and pitch to a group of entrepreneurs and councillors. It was open to young people aged 12-25 and winning this competition provided them with some seed funding to develop their idea, mentoring and resources on business innovation.

Adem Yelegin, Aria Bradley, Lucy Seppelt and Parnia Hatami developed a business called Offolio and developed a phone case that harnessed kinetic, solar and thermal energy to charge a phone. It was called the ZON and it would create a battery solution for smartphones. The students confidently and professionally pitched their idea, clearly articulating its value proposition, and the judges loved it. Offolio won first prize!

This experience was wonderful for the 12-year-olds, particularly as they were competing against students up to the age of 17 and this has set them on the path to being future business leaders. A huge congratulations to the students and a big thank you to all those who came out to support them. No doubt this isn’t the last we will hear of Offolio.
