Win-Win for Sophie

Win-Win for Sophie

Before she starts medical school this year, Sophie Ludbrook ('16) will be hoping to add another title to her growing list of accomplishments: Australian Supermodel of the Year.

The aspiring doctor and former top junior equestrian showjumper will compete in the finals of the beauty pageant in Bali and she feels confident about her chances.

"I definitely am going in with competitive motives and if I am successful and do win, that would be incredible," says Sophie, 19, who was previously a Miss World Australia finalist in 2017. "But of course regardless of the results I know I will have gained so many skills, experiences, friends and memories. It's a win-win kind of trip."

Sophie, who achieved a 99.95 ATAR and will begin her degree in medicine at the University of Adelaide following the competition, says she's excited about making a difference in her chosen field.

"It took a lot of determination, grit and relentless devotion to my goal to get into medicine, and I am really proud I have gotten there," she says.

"I hope to focus on endometriosis, as I have battled it myself, and increasing accessibility to treatment and specialist care for women's health, particularly in rural and remote areas."

Founded by Adelaide's Jess Davis, the annual modelling contest also features categories including "Curve", "Teen" and "Male" Supermodel of the Year, as well as an overall selection.

Finalists will be judged on personality, photographic presence and catwalk skills over finals week.
