Year 7 Camp Reflections

Year 7 Camp Reflections
Some of our Year 7s recently returned from their camp at the Tarooki Campsite, nestled between Guichen Bay and Lake Fellmongery in Robe.
In Year 7 camp experiences include surfing, kayaking, bushwalking, navigational skills, and group cooking. The key outcomes at Year 7 level are offering an introduction to leadership, environmental awareness, sustainability, group dynamics and teamwork.
Here are some student reflections from their time away!
My favourite activity on camp was the little dip challenge because of the adventure, teamwork, and the activities. I loved the part where we confused the other team by walking backwards into the right path of a fork in the road, so it looked like we had gone the wrong way.
- Joshua Kirsten
On camp, my favourite activity was surfing! I have Thalasaphobia (fear of the sea), so going in was physically and mental painful. But I kept pushing and pushing until I eventually loved it! It was so cool to finally overcome my greatest fear. I learnt to do things that I would NEVER ever do. I am so glad that I (with the help of some nice teachers) pushed myself outside of my initial comfort zone.
- Hamish Buchannan
The funniest moment of my camp was cooking on the trangia with Will. First, I was shocked by the boiling water and everyone cracked up. A few seconds later I looked up and the water is overflowing, I grabbed my spondulees and they keep slipping so Archie grabbed his spondulees and once again everybody cracked up. There was more funny stuff but there was too many.
- Harry Tozer
The only comment that I have to say about camp was that it was one of the best camps that I have ever been on. It was fun... you still challenge yourself but in a nice way.
- Jackson Sullivan
My favourite activity by far was surfing. I really liked this, and I loved being in the water and learning how to turn and stand up. This was my first-time surfing and now I’m asking for a surfboard for my birthday.
