International Students

International Students
International Students and exchange students at Scotch College (CRICOS 00615B) come from a wide range of countries including Korea, Vietnam, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan and Germany.
Our International Students share their country's culture, customs and history which adds to the learning experience of all students.
Many students start in Year 8 immersing themselves in the English language and Australian culture for five years, while others attend Scotch for their final two years of Secondary education prior to entrance into University. Students from non-English speaking backgrounds (NESB) that require a specific level of English proficiency before they commence mainstream study can participate in the the Culture and Language Immersion Program (CLIP) at Scotch College.
International Students learn to live, study and make friends in Australia. In an increasingly globalised world, International Students can make a great contribution to both cultural understanding and future economic and commercial interactions.
Throughout their education at Scotch, International Students work towards improving their English, achieving their best grades and developing lasting friendships.
Students work towards achieving a high Tertiary Entrance Ranking (TER), enabling University entrance. Scotch graduates regularly achieve excellent results, and most go on to University study either in Adelaide, interstate or overseas.
There is a full-time International Student Coordinator looking after the welfare of all International Students.
Accommodation
Homestay
Scotch College can recommend the student to a local homestay provider. Homestay provides a cost-effective living option for student and offers families the peace of the mind that their children will be safe and supported throughout their schooling in Australia. All approved Homestay families are located close to the school with numerous transportation available.
Our homestay families are also located close to the many attractions Adelaide has to offer. Students are provided with a private area to sleep and study, three meals per day, company and care, with the added support of a 24 hour/7 day a week phone number to support students with homestay issues. The International Student Coordinator is also available to support students in homestay with academic advice and support.
Boarding House
The Rosevear Boarding Precinct strives to make residential life a positive experience for all students by providing a care system, which recognises the individual and provides a caring family-like environment. This relationship is based on trust, cooperation and open communication. We accept Boarding students from Year 7 to Year 12.
Boarders have morning and evening meals in the Boarders Dining Room located in Torrens Park House. The dining room overlooks the botanic park-like grounds of the campus, providing a picturesque setting for eating and socialising. During the week, midday meals are collected from the kitchen adjacent to the Boarder’s Dining Room. Food is prepared by our internationally trained chef, and is nutritious, varied and delicious.
The Heads of Boarding arrange regular outings for the boarding students throughout the year.
English Testing
International Students require an adequate command of English so that they can manage the work in mainstream classes. If English is not the applicant's first language, it is desirable for the applicant to sit a test before being considered for a place at Scotch College. The results of the test will determine any need for additional intensive English courses. Scotch College will consider the AEAS/IELTS or equivalent test as part of the enrolment process.
Culture & Language Immersion Program (CLIP)
At Scotch College, we offer a unique and supportive orientation program to Australian education. It is intended for enrolled students to bridge the gap between new arrivals and mainstream schooling. Students live in our Boarding House or Homestay and can commence their studies immediately as they arrive in Adelaide.
CLIP is for international students from non English speaking backgrounds requiring a specific level of English proficiency before they commence mainstream study at Scotch College. After completing the enrolment process, the Director of Admissions will offer students a placement at Scotch College commencing in the CLIP program at the appropriate level.

Students may participate in non language rich subject classes whilst participating in the program and will also be encouraged to observe classes they wish to enter at a later date.
Alongside the daily intensive language classes students are encouraged, where possible, to participate in all aspects of school life; music, sport and co-curricular activities.
Throughout the program students will be continuously assessed on their speaking, listening, reading and writing and receive constant progress reports. When students graduate the course they may confidently proceed to mainstream classes with EAL/D support.
The program also addresses the cultural implications of studying in another country. CLIP students are taught about the various cultures they experience in their stay. Students learn what it means to be part of an Australian culture as well as being a member of the Scotch College community.
Incursions, excursions and special events develop CLIP students’ cultural awareness and their own global identity.
Enrolment Process
Please see further information for International parents and agents to cover the steps in the enrolment process.
