About Dr John Newton

Dr John Newton was appointed as the Principal of Scotch College Adelaide in January 2015. John, his wife Catherine and two of his children moved to Adelaide from England at the beginning of that year. Prior to his appointment at Scotch, John had been the Headmaster of Taunton School in Somerset, since January 2005. Educated at The Manchester Grammar School (UK), John is a graduate of Merton College, Oxford with a degree in French and Russian. John has a PhD in the ‘Organisational Culture of Independent Schools’ and has immersed himself in independent schooling for the last three decades, including serving as Director of Studies and Housemaster at Eastbourne College, and Head of Modern Languages at Bradfield College in Berkshire. John’s wife, Catherine, is in the second year of her midwifery degree. John’s youngest two children are at university in the UK.  His two older children are based in the UK in various professional capacities, and are hopefully, now off the family payroll!
